Thai authorities have confiscated around 1,000 Bitcoin miners from a group of individuals accused of stealing electricity.
According to reports, the group had been siphoning off electricity from a local grid in the Tha Pradu area of Mueang District. The stolen electricity was allegedly used to power the Bitcoin mining operation.
Bitcoin mining requires a significant amount of electricity to run the complex algorithms needed to mine new coins. In many cases, mining operations have been accused of consuming excessive amounts of power without proper authorization.
Local police collaborated with the Provincial Electricity Authority in order to identify and apprehend the suspects. The confiscated Bitcoin miners have an estimated value of $267,000.
