Binance Founder Cz Denies Suggesting Kyrgyz Crypto Bank Plan

In recent developments within the crypto space, rumors claimed that Binance co-founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao was orchestrating a proposal for a crypto-friendly private banking initiative in Kyrgyzstan. However, Zhao has now clarified that he is not behind any such plan, despite his ongoing advisory role in the country’s blockchain and crypto regulatory efforts. This controversy highlights ongoing debates about crypto regulation and the role influential figures play in shaping financial ecosystems across emerging markets.

    • CZ dismisses reports about leading a private bank proposal in Kyrgyzstan, emphasizing he has no interest in managing a bank.
    • Despite denying involvement, Zhao supports Kyrgyzstan’s crypto development as an advisor on blockchain regulation.
    • The Kyrgyz government is actively working to position the country as a regulated crypto hub, including the launch of a new stablecoin.
    • Zhao’s advisory work involves integrating Binance’s educational initiatives and localizing crypto app services in Kyrgyzstan.

Changpeng Zhao denies involvement in Kyrgyzstan bank plan

Binance’s prominent founder, Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, has publicly refuted claims suggesting he spearheaded efforts to establish a private crypto bank in Kyrgyzstan. Reports circulated after Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Japarov mentioned during an interview that CZ suggested creating a cryptocurrency-focused bank during a visit in May.

The president indicated that although he initially favored a state-owned bank, CZ’s rejection of that idea led to the formation of Bereket Bank as a private banking alternative. However, CZ took to social media to clarify that he was not involved in any such proposal and has no intentions of running a bank.

“This isn’t correct. Not quite 4 FUD level, but still wrong. I never proposed creating a bank myself. While I support banks working with crypto generally, I have no interest in running one. I don’t recognize the name mentioned below. It’s not something I proposed,”

He added, “I might have said I wish there to be as many digital banks supporting crypto as possible.”

Zhao’s advisory role and ongoing crypto initiatives in Kyrgyzstan

Despite distancing himself from the proposed private bank, CZ confirmed in April that he has been advising Kyrgyzstan on blockchain and cryptocurrency regulation under a memorandum of understanding with the country’s foreign investment agency.

Since then, Zhao has actively contributed to shaping Kyrgyzstan’s evolving crypto landscape, including supporting the launch of a new stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the Kyrgyzstani som. CZ announced that the stablecoin would operate on the BNB Chain, with plans to incorporate BNB into the country’s crypto reserve.

Beyond stablecoin development, CZ revealed that Kyrgyzstan is integrating Binance’s educational platform, Binance Academy, with its top universities. Additionally, localizing the Binance app across the country aims to enhance accessibility and crypto adoption.

These initiatives underscore Kyrgyzstan’s strategic efforts to position itself as a compliant and innovative crypto hub, leveraging blockchain technology to foster economic growth and digital innovation.
