Canadian Crypto Remittances To Asia Jump 141% To $2.36b, Chainalysis Says
Canadian Crypto Remittances To Asia Jump 141% To $2.36b, Chainalysis Says

Remittance-sized crypto transfers from Canada are expanding quickly, with stablecoin and Bitcoin activity growing across key routes to India, China and the Philippines. A new report from Chainalysis says the combined value of these corridor transfers rose 141% year over year to $2.36 billion.

Chainalysis attributes the surge to broader use of digital assets in cross-border payments, noting that three destinationsโ€”India, China and the Philippinesโ€”accounted for 19.4% of Canadaโ€™s outbound cross-border stablecoin value. That share was 10.9% a year earlier.

    Key takeaways

    • Canadian outbound remittance-style crypto transfers to India, China and the Philippines reached $2.36 billion over the latest 12-month period, up 141% year over year, according to Chainalysis.
    • India, China and the Philippines together made up 19.4% of Canadaโ€™s outbound cross-border stablecoin value, compared with 10.9% the previous year.
    • Transfers totaled 3.56 million transactions in the 12 months ending June 2026, averaging $663 per transaction.
    • Canadaโ€“Philippines remittances measured by Chainalysis data were $61.02 million across 73,564 transactions, up 28% and 34.7% respectively, based on Cointelegraph-reported figures shared with Chainalysis research.
    • Chainalysis also ranks Canada as the strongest peer-to-peer (P2P) crypto economy among G7 countries, pointing to demographics and the cost of traditional money transfers.

    Growth in Canadaโ€™s remittance corridors

The latest Chainalysis analysis focuses on โ€œremittance-sizedโ€ transfers, covering both Bitcoin and stablecoins above $10,000 as they move to and from personal wallets. Over the 12 months ending June 2026, the three major corridorsโ€”Canada to India, China and the Philippinesโ€”generated $2.36 billion in transfers, a 141% increase compared with the prior year.

Chainalysis reports that those flows were spread across 3.56 million transactions, averaging $663 per transaction. This transaction-level breakdown matters for investors and market watchers because it suggests the growth is not limited to sporadic large transfers; rather, it reflects sustained volume across many smaller-to-mid sized payments.

    Stablecoins expanding their role

A central theme in the report is stablecoinsโ€™ growing share in Canada-related cross-border activity. Chainalysis says the three destination countries accounted for 19.4% of Canadaโ€™s outbound cross-border stablecoin value, up from 10.9% the previous year.

In June, stablecoins also represented 44% of Canadaโ€™s dollar-based order book volume, according to Chainalysisโ€”rising from 30% a year earlier. That shift is significant because order book composition can influence liquidity, trade routing, and how easily users can convert value when sending across borders.

Chainalysis cited World Bank estimates that the average cost of sending money from Canada is 6.7%. While the report underscores that blockchain settlement fees alone are often low, it also stresses that those costs do not capture the full pictureโ€”currency conversion and cash-out expenses can still be major components of the total cost for recipients.

Canadaโ€“Philippines activity highlights how corridors differ

While the corridors are grouped together in the headline figures, Chainalysis shared more granular data with Cointelegraph on at least one route: Canada to the Philippines. On that corridor, crypto remittances reached $61.02 million across 73,564 transactions.

Chainalysis head of research Eric Jardine told Cointelegraph that the figuresโ€”reported based on additional data supplied to the outletโ€”show growth of 28% in overall value and 34.7% in transaction count over the measured period.

The significance for readers is that different corridors can scale at different rates depending on local on-ramps, recipient access to exchanges or counterparties, and how quickly users can convert stablecoins or Bitcoin into spendable funds. Even without corridor-by-corridor comparisons for every destination in the provided material, the Philippines route illustrates the direction of travel: higher frequency and higher total routed value.

Why Canada stands out in P2P rankings

Chainalysis also ranked Canada as the strongest peer-to-peer crypto economy among G7 nations. The report ties this to structural factors that could support continued adoption: the countryโ€™s relatively large foreign-born population and the ongoing burden of high fees associated with traditional remittances.

In the Cointelegraph reporting, Morva Rohani, executive director of the Canadian Web3 Council, said about 23% of Canadaโ€™s population is foreign-born, the highest share in the G7. Rohani added that remittance corridors to India, the Philippines, Nigeria, Pakistan and China are heavily used.

The report further examines whether Canadaโ€™s P2P crypto activity tracks changes in its temporary visa-holder population since mid-2021. However, Chainalysis cautioned that the observed relationship is correlational rather than causalโ€”an important distinction. If adoption is merely moving alongside population flows, it could mean demand rises and falls with migration patterns. If crypto payments also create network effects or lower long-run transaction frictions, adoption could persist even as demographics shift.

Jardine also emphasized methodology choices that attempt to avoid overlooking real remittance value. He told Cointelegraph that the firm does not restrict its analysis only to the smallest transfers, warning that doing so could exclude meaningful remittance activity.

Broader stablecoin trend in cross-border flows

The Chainalysis report lands amid a wider shift in global cross-border stablecoin usage. Prior Chainalysis research cited by Cointelegraph found that global cross-border stablecoin flows rose 77.5% to $220.3 billion in the year through June, indicating that the Canada-led corridor story is part of a broader remittance and payment trend.

For market participants, that context matters because liquidity and transaction volumes across the stablecoin ecosystem tend to reinforce each other. When corridor demand grows in major remittance hubs, it can strengthen incentives for exchanges, payment service providers, and market makers to improve routing and conversion optionsโ€”potentially reducing friction for users in future periods.

Readers should watch whether corridor growth continues across the same destinations beyond the latest 12-month window, and whether stablecoins maintain their rising share in Canada-linked dollar order books. Chainalysisโ€™ data also highlights the ongoing question of how much of the โ€œcost advantageโ€ comes from settlement versus downstream conversion and cash-outโ€”an area that could determine how durable these adoption gains prove to be.
