Strategy Capital Funds $205m Strc Buybacks, Avoids New Bitcoin Buys

Michael Saylor’s Strategy paused its Bitcoin activity last week, choosing instead to deploy capital on share buybacks. In its latest Monday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said it did not execute any Bitcoin purchases or sales and also reported no stock sales under its at-the-market program during the period from Monday through Friday.

Strategy repurchased 2.07 million shares in that week and disclosed a sizable use of funds—$204.9 million—to repurchase STRC preferred stock. The move comes as Bitcoin slipped toward the $80,000 area after trading higher earlier in the week.

    Key takeaways

    • Strategy reported no Bitcoin transactions last week and no stock sales through its at-the-market offering program.
    • The company used $204.9 million to repurchase STRC preferred shares, buying 2.07 million shares between Monday and Friday.
    • Bitcoin holdings were unchanged at 848,517 BTC, acquired for $64.02 billion at an average price of $75,446 per coin.
    • Strategy’s USD reserves stayed at $4.83 billion, while USD cash fell roughly 46% to $242.4 million after the buyback.
    • Since October began, Strategy has spent about $664 million on STRC preferred share repurchases versus about $72.3 million for Bitcoin purchases (851 BTC).

No Bitcoin trading, focus shifts to preferred share buybacks

According to Strategy’s SEC filing released Monday, the company refrained from both buying and selling Bitcoin during the covered week. The same filing also stated that Strategy carried out no stock sales through its at-the-market offering program during that timeframe.

Instead, Strategy directed attention to capital returns through buybacks. The company reported repurchasing 2.07 million shares between Monday and Friday, accompanied by a $204.9 million spend on STRC preferred stock repurchases.

This is a notable change in cadence for a company whose market narrative often centers on Bitcoin exposure. Investors typically watch for whether Strategy’s treasury actions align with Bitcoin’s price moves—yet last week’s data shows a clear preference for share repurchases over adding to or trimming its Bitcoin position.

Bitcoin holdings unchanged as price softens

Strategy said its Bitcoin holdings remained steady at 848,517 BTC. The company attributed a total acquisition cost of $64.02 billion, reflecting an average purchase price of $75,446 per coin. For reference, Bitcoin was trading around $79,992 per coin at the U.S. equities open on Monday, based on the price levels cited in the filing coverage.

Last week’s buyback pause occurred during a period of volatility in Bitcoin. CoinGecko data cited in the report shows Bitcoin fell toward the $80,000 mark after touching $84,777 on Wednesday.

While the filing indicates no operational change in Strategy’s BTC inventory, the timing matters: share repurchases typically become more attractive when management believes buyback value is compelling relative to other uses of cash. Strategy’s last-week decision suggests management viewed repurchases of STRC preferred stock as the higher-priority deployment during the pullback.

Reserves stable, cash drawdown follows STRC buyback

The filing also provided a snapshot of Strategy’s treasury position. It said Strategy’s U.S. dollar reserve remained unchanged from the prior week at $4.83 billion, while its USD cash balance fell around 46% to $242.4 million.

The cash decline aligns with the $204.9 million spent on STRC preferred share repurchases. In other words, the company maintained a stable reserve figure, but drew down available cash to fund the buyback activity.

That distinction is important for investors tracking Strategy’s liquidity. A stable reserve figure can indicate continued financial flexibility, while a sharp reduction in cash can signal that active buybacks are consuming near-term funds even if longer-term reserves remain intact.

October spending tilt: more buybacks, less Bitcoin buying

Looking beyond the single week, the filing highlights a broader shift in Strategy’s allocation choices as October began. Since the start of the month, Strategy has spent about $664 million repurchasing STRC preferred shares, compared with roughly $72.3 million spent buying 851 BTC.

This month-to-date pattern contrasts strongly with the week in which Bitcoin drifted lower—showing that Strategy’s capital allocation does not automatically track Bitcoin’s daily direction. Instead, the company appears to be prioritizing structured share buybacks at a much larger scale than incremental Bitcoin purchases.

Investors who monitor how Strategy funds its strategy may want to watch whether this spending mix persists if Bitcoin stabilizes or if volatility increases again.

    What to watch next

With Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings unchanged and cash reduced after a large STRC buyback, the next key signals will be whether the company resumes Bitcoin purchases after the pause—and how much further management deploys cash toward additional preferred share repurchases versus replenishing liquidity.
